Dare To Be Different, Dare To Be You
In a forest full of trees, each one is unique.
Despite coming from the same seed, trees grow differently. They’re not identical, no matter how similar they appear.
The same holds true for us; in a world full of human beings, each one of us is unique. I am unique. You are unique.
Let’s embrace our uniqueness and adapt our actions accordingly. You may know that a tree’s roots can grow more than 20 feet deep in the ground, but do you explore how much you can grow? Or what might limit your potential?
As a kid, I was constantly criticised. Everything, from my manner of speaking, walking, my frizzy hair, my writing style, to my actions, was scrutinised as if under a microscope. Contrary to what you might think, I wasn’t a member of any royal family, like Prince Harry.
Over the years, I tried hard to fit in, almost coming to believe that I wasn’t normal. I wasn’t trying to be someone else; I was just concealing parts of myself to better fit into each environment I found myself in.
Fortunately, a few key beliefs helped me preserve my identity amid the madness. I often found myself asking, ‘Why should I conform? Why does it matter if I’m not like anyone else, as long as I don’t hurt anyone or break any laws?’ Also, I never believed that this was my entire story…
